Buying a saxophone……….?
Looking to spend about -4k AUD on a model that will last me forever, a 2nd hand Selmer, or a vintage, with a really big brassy bluesy dirty sound, something really round and raw and emotional and beautiful sounding. People are recommending I just buy a new Yamaha 62 professional model, but that’s not necessarily what I want. I want something very personal, that will be with me for the rest of my life. Any advice as to what mouthpieces to use to obtain this sound and what direction I should take when choosing a saxophone model? I use Rico reeds, and prefer to only use the bottom screw on the ligature as well. Advice appreciated greatly
) Many thanks, Fiona

1I f u were going to get a yamaha i would suggest the custom Z. Its the only mass-produced custom saxophone. HAHA. But uh… i owned a Z and i wasnt happy with it. Parts started falling off after no more than 10 plays. I also found a better model for me. Its called a P. Mauriat. I think it is just what u r looking for. The sound is rounder than that of a Z. Its easy to play on also. i would suggest a Otto Link for a nice mouthpiece for the dirty bluesy sound.
Hope i was of some help

2My knowledge here is limited, as I am a flutist who can only double on other woodwinds, but I can tell you this much: Yamaha woodwinds are often very bright with very chewy mechanisms. If you don’t like Yamaha for whatever reason, go with something like Selmer- I have heard good things about Selmer saxes.
MAINLY, you should try every model you can in your price range, listen to someone else play them too, and decide what YOU think sounds the best and that plays the easiest. YOU have to play that thing for YEARS, remember!
