ok so I play the alto saxophone and the band I’m in wants me to play it in one of our songs. our band does a mixture of indie, rock and metal. can my saxophone be used in any of those genres? none of us really like ska or anything like that, and I know that they use saxophones in that. can someone suggest a different genre or tell me how to use the sax in a rock band?

I am new to the bari-sax and am not sure how to find a scale when asked. I need to be able to find any scale from concert B flat to concert E and any scale from concert B to concert E flat when asked. How do I find the starting note and the sharps or flats that are in the scale. thanks for any help. Any other tips on how to best play the bari-sax will be helpful.

i ask this since each type of saxophone is in a different melody, does this mean that you’ll have to have a different saxophone for each song that’s in a different melody?

The cheapest Yamaha saxophone costs around 950 USD. I can buy 4 six-core processors with that amount of money. The most expensive saxes I found cost more than 10.000 USD.

I am 17 and thinking of buying an alto sax after which I am going pretty much give up most of my life to learning to play it. However, I was wondering if it is possible to become extremely good to the point of making a career out of it without a teacher or anything.

Any advice is appreciated.

I would love to learn how to play another instrument. Either the saxophone or flute. I have been playing the Bb clarinet for 6 to 7 years now and have other musical experiences (singing, piano a little guitar.) Would it be better to learn the saxophone or flute better? I have heard that the clarinet and saxophone are very similar. I have also heard that there embossers (is that how you spell it?) are different? If saxophone which type? or should I learn flute?

I have a relatively good guitar and I’ve played saxophone for over 4 years, so I have some musical background. It also has to be cheap- I can’t pay for lessons. Would a book be easiest? Like Essential Elements or something? In the end I’d like to be able to play just a couple of songs that I like….

Hi! I’m an intermediate Jazz guitarist and I’m interested in playing some of the fusion stuff later in life. I am mesmerized by some of solos because they are very musically appealing.
I know all my modes and chords that go along with it, but I would like to know about progressions and how to compose an actual real tune for myself.
So this leaves a question. Are there any definite books on Jazz improvisation and theory out there for guitarist like me?
