Hi I’ve been playing the saxophone for over 5 years now and I am capable of playing grade 4/5ish Royal conservatory music. I want to buy my first saxophone but right now I’m not sure what brand to buy, if I should go with pro or student edition(my budget’s 0-00). I want to buy an alto, but I want to buy a sax that has that nice tone, I’ve played the one’s at my school and I want to ugrade from these saxes. I’m not sure if I should buy a proffessional mouthpiece e.g. el taro I think its called its by a south american company and buy a cheaper student sax so i can save some money or but a more expensive sax for better tone/quality. I’m not looking for something that has all these accessories and awesome abilities/qualities, I can play on almost any sax, I have the skill level. Don’t know what to do. What should I do?

1Ah I just went through the same thing….I look at it as the student models are almost like training wheels. And when you play to a certain extent then you don’t need them as much and grow out of them. I’d say go for a professional one, if you say your playing ability is up to par, and it will help you to be able to express your music better. If you’re serious about music, which it looks like you are, i’d say save up for a professional sax that will be useful much longer, especially in a college setting, over a student model. If you go to college for music, they’d expect you to have professional quality…Hope I’ve helped you out some!(:
