I’m an amazing euphonium (low brass) and piano player. I have a lot of music inclination. I’ve recently been interested in buying a soprano sax to learn to play over the summer. However, everywhere i read, it says that you shouldn’t try to play a soprano sax without first either playing alto sax, or clarinet.
This probably sounds conceited, but I’m an amazing musician and I want to try something new and challenging. Is this a good idea? (I really don’t want to lean alto)

1Okay first it is going to be a big enough jump about embouchure from a Brass to a Woodwind. I would highly suggest an alto first just to get the hang of it. Plus on soprano you have to have a bit tighter embouchure which can throw a lot of people off. Perhaps if you really don’t want to do Alto maybe Clarinet ? It will also give you a good feeling from the new embouchure. So slow down and take your time and trust me it will give you much better playing on the Soprano Saxophone later on …

2well i think an alto sax would be the easiest to start with…u have to learn the armature and fingerings which are very different from a euphonium.
plus there aren’t that many songs with a soprano part..unless you’re in a sax quartet.
