I would love to learn how to play another instrument. Either the saxophone or flute. I have been playing the Bb clarinet for 6 to 7 years now and have other musical experiences (singing, piano a little guitar.) Would it be better to learn the saxophone or flute better? I have heard that the clarinet and saxophone are very similar. I have also heard that there embossers (is that how you spell it?) are different? If saxophone which type? or should I learn flute?
Thanks!

1It really depends because there are advantages to learning different instruments:
Flute:
By learning the flute, you will gain a better, more strong embouchure (you will be able to hold a note longer)
By learning any saxophone you will know how to play all the other saxophones because the fingerings are the same even when the keys are different (Alto & Bari -> Eb Tenor & Soprano -> Bb)
If I were you, I would master the piano instead but in this case it really is your own choice.
Good luck!
By the way, don’t listen to the others who say that flutes are for girls etc. They actually require a lot of air support and are quite difficult to play for beginners.

2Flutes are usually more feminine while Saxophones are classy.

3Learn the tenor sax since it’s in the same key as the clarinet.

4Yes, it is much easier to stay on instruments with reeds, than to switch to a different kind of instrument. If you’ve been playing the clarinet, try out the saxophone.
