I’m going to join the jazz band next year and was wondering what the best type of guitar(not like electric or acoustic) would be…
Like the actual brand and model…
Thanks!
A cheap Fender Standard Strat or Standard Tele would do. I know that my Standard Strat can get a nice jazzy tone. The best thing is that Fender guitars are reliable and well-made…even the cheap Standard models!
Some of the finest guitarists have used Fenders, ranging in genres from jazz and country to blues and rock. In fact, the late Danny Gatton–who played everything including jazz, blues, rockabilly, rock and country–used Fender Teles. As for a living guitarist, country superstar Brad Paisley’s main guitar is a 1968 pink paisley Fender Tele. And Paisley–like Gatton–can play many genres very well, including jazz, blues, rock, surf rock, bluegrass, western swing and, of course, country.
Anyway, if you want a well-made and versatile guitar for a low price, I’d highly recommend a Fender Strat or Tele.
You need a guitar something like BB King plays. He plays a Gibson hollow body "Lucille". BB plays the blues, but both genres play the same type of guitar. They are incredibly expensive though. Gretsch makes a great guitar, with a much cheaper price tag. Epiphone is another good guitar. You need to find a good guitar store near you and start playing guitars in your price range. But the guitar that most jazz musicians play is a Hollow Body.
You will have to look into hollowbody guitars. I just joined my school’s jazz band with an epiphone sheraton which i highly recommend here are some other guitars.
If i was you i would go with the sheraton because i’m in love with the guitar now. Most of this stuff i put will give you that nice wes montgomery, george benson, joe pass and ect sound.

2The Gibson ES 335 range are great jazz guitars, but they aren’t cheap. You could get an Epiphone copy for a more reasonable price.
